Minneapolis MN Ant Control
Ants can often be the worst pests of all. If you’ve had an ant problem, then you know how unpleasant it can be. And if you haven’t had any visiting ants then consider yourself lucky. Their colonies are enormous, numbering up to 300,000-500,000…lets face it, that is a whole lot of ants. They can basically invade your home or office through any crack or hole. Yikes!
When it comes to ants in the home, there is never just one! So if you see one, it might just be a lonely ant that has lost its way and made it into your home; but it’s more likely that its family members are somewhere close by in your home, too! Anywhere in and around your house or business, including your lawn, walls, stumps, and under your foundation, are perfect nesting spots for ants.
Do not underestimate carpenter ants because they can destroy your house. These ants are larger than regular ants, and they live in moist, hollow or decaying wood. Their colonies can be found in tree trunks and in the wooden frames of houses. Carpenter ants make passageways through their colony by cutting galleries into its wood. They’ll weaken the foundations of your house.
Prevention
An important method for preventing carpenter ant problems indoors is to eliminate high moisture conditions that are attractive to them. Also, replace any moisture-damaged wood. Be careful that wood or lumber that is stored in a garage or near the house is kept dry and, if possible, elevated to allow air circulation.
Store firewood as far away from buildings as possible. Remove tree and shrub stumps and roots. Trim branches that overhang the home.
