Minnesota Earwig Extermination
Their scientific name is “Dermaptera,” which is literally translated “skin wings.” They are nocturnal insects, capable of flying, although they rarely do. They love to hide in small moist crevices during the day, resting themselves to come out at night. They get the name “Earwig” from a myth that says they crawl in people’s ears, while they sleep, and eat their brains. The fact is, their appearance is frightening, they can deliver a small bite, but they are not venomous and the bite is harmless. Earwigs eat foliage from trees and shrubs, flowers and various fruit and vegetable crops. In large numbers, Earwigs can do some serious damage to these plants in no time at all.
