Green Eco-Friendly Pest Removal in Minnesota – Silverfish, Part III
Why do I always find silverfish hiding in my bookshelf? Why do I move boxes in my basement and find more silverfish even after I have squished several?
Silverfish will generally eat just about anything, including paper. This includes wallpaper (and its glue, so your wallpaper could become seriously damaged in spots with a serious infestation), books, leather, paper, fur, and as mentioned in the last installment, cotton, silk and many other kinds of fabrics. Silverfish are active at night and hide during the day, so if you move a box or a pile of books during the day and find them, they were probably hiding there waiting for nighttime. A female adult silverfish will generally lay about 3 eggs per day and she lays them in small wall crevices or cracks in the floor, or even under boxes or books. So even if you squish a few, several more are waiting to take their place.
